The first casualty of spycraft is any hope of a real life.

Three years ago, a traumatic op forced her into a quiet life as an analyst. But after new intel surfaces on a terrorist plot in her hometown of Kuwait, former intelligence agent Petra Shirazi has no choice but to return to the field.

Thrust back into a violent world she vowed to leave behind, Petra must face her personal demons and her guilt over the death of one of her sources.

A money trail exposes a massive wave of terrorist attacks—implicating the highest levels of the Kuwaiti and Iranian governments.

All signs point to the Ahriman, the Iranian mastermind behind the cruelest and deadliest attacks in history.

Pitted against her nemesis, Petra must confront her past if she is to stop the world from tilting into an abyss from which there is no return.

The race to stop the Ahriman begins.

Intriguing espionage triller An intriguing espionage thriller that was very hard to put down. I did have a hard time at the beginning keeping up with the back-and-forth between the future/current settings, but I just needed to pay closer attention to the chapter headings. Action-packed, but no gory scenes. Was very hard to put down until I finished it.

An intriguing political thriller I enjoyed this very much. It's set in Kuwait, which makes it slightly unusual, and gives a flavour of the politics of culture of the country, including the climate and the way parliament works. It's set slightly into the future but is nevertheless quite authoritative in terms of creating a world of spycraft which seems very relevant to today. If you like exotic locations and fast-moving thrillers that reflect the geo-politics of the world and offer different viewpoints, I recommend giving it a try.

A potentially great spy novel unfortunately fizzles with the constant flipping between the past and the present. The author had a great plotline going and then she detailed the stories momentum by constantly flipping between events in the past and actions in the present. This technique works well when used selectively, but this was more along the lines of an overdose!I award this novel 3 Stars.

Really enjoyed first half of book Really enjoyed first half of book. Then it began a downhill slide of believability. Even with a stretch of imagination the 2nd half of the book was really a letdown.

A very strong start to the series In an attempt to put it briefly, “Ahriman: The Spirit of Destruction” is an excellent, hard-hitting read that has not only left me impressed, but also left me with an author name to keep an eye on, in anticipation of future releases. This is the type of read that is perfect for any kind of thriller fans out there who love a story that has a strong militaristic & political conspiracy theme, with a fast-paced vivid writing style to match that expresses each scene in an immersive and captivating manner. What I admire most about this read is that it is genuinely hard to predict as each chapter transitions into the next. This is far from the kind of read that has a protagonist that goes through each obstacle in an almost superman-like manner. There’s some genuinely dire and complex plot twists thrown in that often had me truly questioning how on earth Petra was going to be able to through them, this translates to the book having a kind of vibe that will leave many readers on the edge of their seats and ultimately make it hard to put the book down – as was the case with me.In summary, I think this is a great start to the series because it has set up a very strong foundation with plenty of options and possibilities of what is next to come – I look forward to seeing how the author plans to keep the momentum up with the next addition. Highly recommended.

Absolute page-turner Once I started reading this book, I couldn't stop until I finished it. Whereas most thrillers are typically one-sided and all about the "good guy" (or girl), Ms Puja Guha tells the riveting story in "Ahriman: The Spirit of Destruction" from the perspective of the down-to-earth hero (Petra) as well as from the perspective of the villain (the Ahriman) and you quickly begin to question whether the latter truly is villainous. Granted, he is an assassin, but what would you do if you were in his place? I loved the different locations that the author takes us to, the cultural lessons in the book, and how through a series of flashbacks we learn how Petra and the Ahriman are connected to one another. This book is a fantastic read and a perfect present for the upcoming holidays!
